This multi-wood stave snare drum is made by a drummer for drummers. With the ultimate sound in mind, this snare is not just built to look different, it is built for sound and to be as versatile as possible. A free-floating snare has nothing attached, screwed or bolted to the wooden shell. This ensures the full resolution of the drum when played. This enhances the timbre and tone and gives a wider dynamic range of sound. Perfect for any drum kit, it offers rich sound, stunning looks, and easy maintenance, making it an ideal gift for drummers and a standout musical instrument.
The machine-rolled, and hand-hammered, laser-cut outer steel outer shell forms one piece with the tensioning lugs. The strainer and butt-end are also attached to this ring. Because all the metal on this snare forms one piece, the rim shots and side-stick are enhanced.
The wooden shell can be chosen in the sizes 14×5.5inch, 14x6inch and 14×6.5inch as well as the type of wood and thickness of the shell. Please contact me to discuss this because I would like to work out the ideal configuration for your desired sound.
The snare wires can stay in place when changing heads. After removing the top head, the wooden shell can be taken out, and the bottom head can be removed and replaced (see video).
The snare fits in regular hard cases for 14-inch snares.
Sound qualities:
The response is direct when playing softly and the sound is delicate with a great response of the wires.
When playing hard the floating wooden shell gives loads of low end, and the metal outer shell provides the power of a metal snare drum.
The rimshot has a lot of depth and because of the floating nature of the drum, every type of playing gives a lot of nuances, tone, and colour.
The overall sound is a mix between a wooden and a metal snare.
The sound and tuning will improve during playing.
